CPCT Typing Test 2026 - Free MP Government Practice (English + Hindi)
The Computer Proficiency Certification Test (CPCT), conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Agency for Promotion of Information Technology (MAP_IT), is a state-level certification required for clerical hiring across most Madhya Pradesh government departments and public-sector undertakings. The test has two main components: a multiple-choice computer-knowledge section, and a typing-skill section that includes both English and Hindi typing modules. The typing threshold is typically 30 WPM in English and 20 WPM in Hindi, with strong accuracy expectations. The CPCT certificate, once earned, is valid for seven years and is accepted by virtually every MP government department for clerical and computer-operator post recruitment. This page is your free, exam-aligned practice surface in both languages.

What CPCT measures
CPCT has two distinct typing modules in its skill section: a Hindi typing test and an English typing test, each scored separately. The typing component runs for 15 minutes total in the test session, but only a subset of that is the actual scored timed window - typically 10 minutes for English and another timed segment for Hindi. The score is gross-WPM-based with deduction for errors at a per-character rate, so accuracy practice is just as important as raw speed. The MCQ portion (computer knowledge, reading comprehension, basic mathematics, and general aptitude) is separate from the typing test and not the focus of this practice page. CPCT certificates, once earned, remain valid for 7 years and are widely accepted by MP departments and public-sector undertakings as proof of basic computer and typing competence.
How to use Typetera for CPCT practice
Hit 'Start practice test' below for a 10-minute timed run with a real CPCT-style passage in English. Target 35 WPM at 95%+ accuracy in practice - that gives you a comfortable buffer above the 30 WPM threshold for exam-day pressure. For the Hindi module, switch to /hi/exams/cpct-typing-test for the same 10-minute format with Mangal/InScript convention and the 20 WPM Hindi threshold. The Hindi threshold can be slightly higher in some MP department-specific recruitments (sometimes Krutidev rather than Mangal - verify your target department's recruitment notification before practice). For Krutidev practice, configure your system's Hindi IME to Krutidev mode and use Custom mode at /hi/test to drill on the layout.
5-week practice plan
CPCT exams run monthly in major MP cities (Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior). If your registration is 5 weeks out: Week 1 (baseline + accuracy): 30 minutes daily. Take a baseline test in each language. Maintain 95%+ accuracy at whatever speed produces it. Don't push WPM yet. Weeks 2-3 (speed build): 45 minutes daily, split between English and Hindi roughly proportional to where you're weakest. Push speed while keeping accuracy at 95%+. Drill weak keys from the per-key breakdown in Custom mode for 5 minutes daily. Week 4 (endurance): Daily 10-minute exam-mode runs alternating English and Hindi. Build the discipline of sustained focus over the full window. Week 5 (taper): Daily 10-minute runs. Stop chasing personal bests. Practise consistently 5 WPM above your target threshold with high accuracy.
Common CPCT mistakes
The most common mistake is treating the MCQ and typing sections separately during preparation. Candidates spend hours on computer-knowledge MCQs and arrive at the typing test cold. Reserve at least 30% of your prep time for typing, especially the Hindi module. The second mistake is assuming the exam centre's keyboard will feel like your home keyboard. Exam centres often have flat membrane keyboards with different key travel and stiffness than premium laptop or mechanical keyboards. Practise on multiple keyboards if possible, and arrive at the centre 90 minutes early so you can settle into the assigned keyboard's feel before the test starts. The third mistake is forgetting that the CPCT certificate has 7-year validity. If you've cleared it once, you don't need to retake the test for any MP government recruitment that accepts CPCT - just produce the existing certificate. The fourth is neglecting Hindi practice when applying for departments that allow either language. Many MP department recruitments offer English or Hindi typing options on the application form, but some specifically require Hindi for posts that involve communication in Hindi-speaking districts. Check your target post's notification carefully.
Exam day at the CPCT centre
CPCT exams are conducted at MAP_IT-authorised centres across Madhya Pradesh. Reporting time is typically 60-90 minutes before the test slot. After biometric verification and document checking, you'll be allocated to a computer terminal in the exam hall. The CPCT exam software shows the MCQ section first, with the typing test modules following. Between sections, there is typically a brief instructions screen explaining the next module's mechanics. The typing modules display the source passage in the upper portion of the screen and a blank typing area below. The timer is visible throughout. At the end of each timed module the system auto-submits and moves to the next section. After the entire test, results are not given on the spot - they appear on the MAP_IT CPCT portal (cpct.mp.gov.in) within 2-3 weeks, typically as a downloadable score-card listing your WPM, accuracy, and MCQ marks separately.
Where the CPCT certificate is accepted
A valid CPCT certificate is accepted as proof of computer and typing proficiency for clerical, computer-operator, and data-entry post recruitments across most MP government departments. This includes departments under MP State Service Commission (MPPSC), MP Vyapam recruitments, departmental hiring for posts in revenue, agriculture, education, health, public works, water resources, and other state ministries, as well as several MP public-sector undertakings and statutory bodies. The 7-year validity means a single certification covers a long stretch of your career. If you're targeting multiple MP government recruitments over the coming years, clearing CPCT once is a strategic investment that pays off across many separate applications without requiring repeated typing skill tests.
