  With analytics consent, Typetera reports a small set of completed activities to Google Analytics: that a test was finished (its mode, language, length, and speed and accuracy as bands rather than exact figures), that an exam practice run met its threshold or did not, that a Learn or course lesson was completed, that the leaderboard was joined or a run posted to it, and which language or colour theme was chosen. No typed text, no custom passages, no names and no identifiers are included in any of them. It also reports that points were awarded (the activity and the amount as a band) and that a new tier was reached. It also reports that a result, progress or milestone card was shared, and how (as a link, an image or the device's share tray) - never what the card said.

  For each typing game, the highest level you have completed and your best score. Nothing about a game is written to your run history or personal bests - a score earned in a game is not a typing speed. Kept separately for each typing language, because a key is a position on one keyboard.

  How far up the level ladder you have got - a count of levels cleared and when the last one was. Derived from your own runs; clearing it simply starts the ladder again. Kept separately for each typing language, because a level is about the text you can type and text is a language.

• tt_leaderboard_v1Until you clear site data

  A single flag recording whether your runs are published to the leaderboard. Publishing is on by default, so this is written the first time you answer the notice on the results page - as a yes or as a no - and read on every run afterwards. Turning it off stops anything further being sent.

  Present once a run of yours has been published without an account: the name you appear under and the secret that proves this device is that entrant. The secret is never published - the leaderboard shows only the name. Sign in and it is handed to your account and removed from here.

  When you are signed in: the name you appear under on the leaderboard, kept here so the page can show it without asking the server every time. Removed when you sign out.

  A marker set for the length of one browser tab session when a run has just been sent to the leaderboard, so the results page can tell you it happened. It holds no run data and is cleared as soon as the notice is shown.

  Your points: what you earned, when and why, with a total for each day. Points are kept on this device and synced only when you sign in.

• tt_points_burst_v1Until you close the tab

  Carries the points just earned from a test to its results page, for one browser tab session. Cleared as soon as they are shown.

  Keeps the run you have just finished as it was typed - the passage and the time before each keystroke - so its results page can replay it and name your fastest and slowest words. Never leaves this device, and goes when the tab does.

  Your settings for the test page: text size, caret style, whether the live numbers stay on screen while you type, and stop on error.

  How well you type each individual character - how often you get it right and how long it takes you. Used by Learn mode to decide which keys to practise next. Only the last two dozen attempts per key are kept, so it forgets keys you have fixed. If you sign in, this is one of the things carried to your account, so a new device does not start you over.   The older, single-language form of the five stores above. The first time a page reads any of them, what they held is moved into the new form under the language you type in most, and these are removed.
