Who we are

Typetera is a typing-test product operated by Anuvrittiksha EdTech Pvt. Ltd., a Bengaluru-based company in India. We act as the data controller for any personal data processed through this site. Privacy questions: privacy@typetera.com.

The short version

You can use almost all of Typetera without giving us anything at all. Taking tests, every language, exam mode, targeted drills, your results, your personal best, your streak and your milestones all work with no account, and in that case nothing about your typing ever reaches our servers - it stays in your browser.

There is one optional exception. If you want your streak and records to follow you from your laptop to your phone, you can create an account. That is the only thing an account does, and it is the only reason we would ever hold your email address. If you never sign up, we never have one.

What we don't do

We don't require an account to use the site.
We don't sell or share personal data with brokers.
We don't use intrusive advertising, popups, or interstitials.
We don't store or read your custom typing text - it stays in your browser.
We don't track typing accuracy or content for individual user profiling.
We don't ask for your name, phone number, address, or date of birth.

If you create an account

Accounts are handled by Amazon Cognito in the AWS Mumbai region. Here is everything we would then hold, in full:

Your email address. Used to sign you in, to send a verification code, and to let you reset your password. We do not send marketing email and there is no mailing list to be added to.
A password you choose. We never see it. Cognito stores a hash; it is not readable by us or recoverable by anyone, which is why a forgotten password is reset rather than retrieved.
Your progress. Personal bests, practice streak, and lifetime totals such as runs completed and time spent. This is the same summary already kept in your browser, stored so it can reach your other devices.

That is the complete list. We do not store the passages you typed, what you typed wrongly, your IP address against your account, or anything about which pages you visited.

You can download everything held about your account, or delete the account outright, from the account page at any time. Deleting removes both the stored progress and the sign-in identity immediately; there is no waiting period and you do not have to email anyone to ask.

Advertising, and what Google gets

Typetera is free and is funded by ads on some pages. Being straightforward about what that means: when ads are enabled for you, Google receives information it needs to serve them. In practice that is your IP address, your browser and device details, the page you are on, and identifiers stored on your device for frequency capping and measurement.

What Google does not get from us is anything connecting that to you as a person. We never pass your email address, your account, your results, or your typing to Google or to any other advertiser. There is no advertising ID linked to your Typetera account, because the two are not joined up on our side at all.

Google is a third-party vendor on this site and, like other vendors, uses cookies to serve ads. Its DoubleClick cookie lets Google and its partners serve ads based on your visits to Typetera and to other sites on the internet.

You can turn personalised advertising off at any time in Google Ads Settings, at adssettings.google.com, and you can opt out of third-party vendor cookies more broadly at www.aboutads.info/choices. Neither costs you anything here: with advertising consent withdrawn, Typetera still works in full, and the pages that carry ads simply show fewer relevant ones.

Cookies and tracking - your choice

Essential (always on): theme, language, suggested locale, and your consent choice itself. First-party only. No personal data leaves your browser.
Analytics (off by default): aggregated traffic measurement via Google Analytics 4. Sets _ga / _ga_* cookies. No cross-site tracking, no Google Signals, no advertising features enabled.

What data we receive

Page views and engagement metrics via Google Analytics (when consented).
Approximate country-level location, derived from your IP at edge (CloudFront header) - used to suggest a default second language. Not stored.
Browser type / OS for compatibility checks (standard server-log data).
Server logs (IP address, user agent), retained 7 days for security only.
Test results (WPM, accuracy, etc.) - stored in your browser's localStorage only.
Your progress - personal bests, practice streak and lifetime totals. Also localStorage only, and calculated from your own results on your own device.
Per-key accuracy and timing - how well you type each individual character. Learn mode uses it to decide what to teach you next. Only the last two dozen attempts per key are kept, so a key you have fixed stops counting against you.
Custom typing text - never leaves your device.

Where data lives

Without an account, test results and progress live exclusively in your browser's localStorage: they stay on the device and browser you set them on, they will not follow you to your phone, and clearing site data clears them. With an account, a copy of your progress is also stored in DynamoDB in the AWS Mumbai region so it can reach your other devices: your personal bests, your streak, your totals, how far you have got in Learn and the course, and the per-key record of how accurately and how quickly you type each individual character. Not your typed text. Custom text never leaves your browser either way. Aggregated analytics flow to Google Analytics in the United States. Ad delivery data flows to Google in jurisdictions where Google operates.

Your rights

Brazilian residents have the rights of access, correction, anonymization, deletion, portability, information about data sharing, and revocation of consent. Use the Manage cookies link to revoke at any time.

Children

Typetera is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we materially change this policy, we will show a banner on the site for at least seven days and update the "Last updated" date above.
