Questions people ask
Direct answers to what candidates ask most about the Indian government typing tests: what speed is needed, how the test actually runs, and what counts as a pass.
Does SSC CHSL have a typing test? Complete 2026 guide
Yes. SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) has a typing test - conducted after Tier-II as a Skill Test. The minimum requirement is 35 words per minute for English and 30 WPM for Hindi. It is qualifying in nature, but you cannot be selected without passing it.
How does the SSC CHSL typing test work? Step-by-step process
The SSC CHSL typing test is a 10-minute computer-based skill test. You arrive at the exam center, are assigned a computer, see a passage on screen, and type that passage into a blank text box below it. English candidates need to clear 35 WPM and Hindi candidates 30 WPM.
What typing speed do you need to pass SSC CHSL?
The minimum speed required to pass SSC CHSL typing test is 35 WPM for English (10,500 key depressions per hour) and 30 WPM for Hindi (9,000 KDPH). Accuracy of 95% or higher is also expected because errors are deducted from your gross WPM.
How does the RRB NTPC typing test work? Complete guide
Some RRB NTPC posts include a typing test - primarily Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, and Senior Clerk cum Typist. Minimum requirements are 30 WPM English and 25 WPM Hindi. It's a 10-minute computer-based skill test.
Does TNPSC conduct a typing test, or do I need a certificate first?
For Junior Assistant, the TNPSC notification asks for a typewriting qualification you already hold - a pass in the Government Technical Examination in Typewriting, in a specified combination of grades in Tamil and English - rather than a typing test conducted during selection. You obtain the certificate beforehand and upload it with your application. Confirm against the notification for your own post, since requirements differ between posts and cycles.
Is there a typing test for APPSC Junior Assistant, or do I need a certificate?
Clerical posts in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are consistently reported to ask for a typewriting qualification you already hold - a pass in the Government Technical Examination in Typewriting, usually the Lower grade - rather than a typing test the commission schedules for you. We have read the Tamil Nadu notification directly and it works exactly that way; we have not read a current APPSC or TSPSC notification end to end, so confirm against the notification for your own post before planning around this.
Does the Auxiliar Administrativo del Estado exam have a typing test?
Not in the current convocatoria. The December 2025 notification for the Cuerpo General Auxiliar de la Administracion del Estado sets one exercise in two multiple-choice parts, ninety minutes for both, and office software appears only as a syllabus subject. Earlier cycles of the same cuerpo did set typing exercises, which is why so much preparation material still describes one. Confirm against the notification for the process you are sitting.
How are net keystrokes calculated in a Spanish typing exercise?
Net keystrokes are the gross figure minus a penalty for every error, and the penalty is not one keystroke. The Cortes Generales notification sets it at six: net is obtained by subtracting the penalties from the gross, with a separate ceiling of two per cent errors on the gross figure. So 2,700 keystrokes with thirty wrong is 2,520 net, or 252 a minute over ten minutes, where a practice tool deducting one per error would report 267.
Do the Justicia oposiciones still have a typing test?
No, not in the current convocatoria. The 2025 notification for Tramitacion Procesal y Administrativa sets three exercises and the third is twenty multiple-choice questions on Windows 10 and 11 and Microsoft 365, in forty minutes. Auxilio Judicial has two exercises and no computer exercise at all. Both cuerpos did once set typing tests, which is why so much preparation material still describes a transcription in detail.
How many keystrokes a minute do Spanish oposiciones ask for?
There is no single figure, and any page that gives you one without naming a competition is guessing. The one national exercise we could verify is the Cortes Generales, at 250 net keystrokes a minute over ten minutes. The Cuerpo General Auxiliar and the Justicia cuerpos set no typing exercise at all in their current notifications. Autonomous and local competitions set their own, publish them in their own bulletins, and are the reason a single number cannot be honest.
Keystrokes per minute or words per minute: what is the difference?
Keystrokes per minute count every key pressed; words per minute group every five characters into one word. The difference is a factor of five: someone typing 40 words per minute makes about 200 keystrokes per minute, and the two figures describe exactly the same speed. Brazilian editais usually state toques; international sites usually state words.
How many mistakes can I make in a Brazilian typing test?
In FGV's published format each divergent character deducts 0.05 from a mark out of ten, so twenty mistakes cost a full point and two hundred take the mark to zero. On a passage of about 1,800 characters, two hundred is a little over eleven per cent. The mark needed to pass, however, is not in that document: each concurso's edital sets it.
Does the French adjoint administratif concours require a minimum typing speed?
No published speed requirement exists. The practical office test runs fifteen minutes at coefficient 1, and its published definition covers word processing, spreadsheets and information technology. We looked for a speed criterion in the epreuve definitions and the framework notes and found none.
How do you type accents on an AZERTY keyboard?
On an AZERTY keyboard e-acute, e-grave, c-cedilla and a-grave sit directly on the number row and cost one keystroke each. The circumflex and diaeresis go through a dead key to the right of P: press it, nothing appears, then the next vowel comes out accented. Accented capitals need the shift key as well.
Traditional or standard AZERTY: what is the difference?
Since Windows 11 version 24H2 there are two French layouts. French (Traditional, AZERTY) is the one nearly everyone has. French (Standard, AZERTY) implements the NF Z71-300 standard: letters and digits stay put, and around 60 characters are added, including E-acute, the oe ligature and French quotation marks.
Spanish or Latin American keyboard: what is the difference?
They are two different layouts, not two names for one. The Spain layout has a dedicated C-cedilla key and the Latin American one does not. The at sign is AltGr+2 in Spain and AltGr+Q in Latin America. The acute accent key sits beside the N-tilde in Spain and beside the P in Latin America. For writing Spanish, either serves equally well.
ABNT2 or the Portugal keyboard: what is the difference?
They are two layouts for one language. Both carry a dedicated C-cedilla key and the same five dead keys for accents, so Portuguese prose types equally well on either. What differs is the mechanics: ABNT2 fits 12 keys between the two Shift keys instead of 10, uses 107 keys in modern versions, and handles ordinals and the currency symbol differently.
